Uber wants to make sure that you are getting into the right car.

A new “check your ride” feature will send a push notification to your phone. It will include the driver’s name and photo, car license plate, make and model.

The feature will debut here in Columbia. The updated functionality in the ride-share app follows the loss of University of South Carolina student, Samantha Josephson. Samantha’s murder is a reminder that things can go terribly wrong when attempting to ride-share. She was recently killed after getting into a car she thought was an Uber and her story has prompted the #WhatsMyName safety campaign.

“Check Your Ride” will be available nationwide soon, but debuts in Columbia. A constant reminder to ask “what’s my name,” and to NEVER forget Samantha Josephson’s story.

Do you verify your rideshare before you get in the car?
