For a limited time, the U.S. State Department is allowing online passport renewals through a beta program so they can monitor and make adjustments based on performance and user feedback.

The system is only available for a limited time each day, starting at 1PM ET. Plus, there’s a limit to the number of daily applications accepted, and users have to meet certain criteria like:

  • be 25-years-old
  • have a current or recently-expired passport
  • must be able to pay using credit or debit card
  • and more!

Users also can’t be traveling out of the country in the next couple of months because the turnaround is not any quicker than the mail-in process and expedited processing isn’t an option.
