On Sunday, Ford will roll out a new version of its iconic Mustang–only this time, it’ll be a fully electric crossover SUV. This will doubtless strike many Mustang purists as outright blasphemy, but as CNN notes, automakers like Porsche and Jeep were able to eventually overcome similar reactions when they started making crossover SUVs, such as the Porsche Cayenne, that flew in the face of their signature models. Customers can place a refundable $500 deposit toward purchasing a new Mustang Mach-E SUV starting Sunday, and Ford will start taking actual orders for the vehicle next year.
